Decisions....Decisions.....Decisions

If there is one thing that I have A LOT of trouble doing...
it is making decisions!!!
Fortunately, my older Aspie son is much better at making decisions. He is currently finishing up his 8th grade year, attending the private school where I teach. Next year will be his first experience to attend a school WITHOUT ME!!!
AS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!
To say that I am a little nervous about this would be an understatement....
To that end, many decisions have had to be made of late pertaining to scheduling for the coming years.
  • What level of diploma is he working towards      (regular, honors, advanced)...
  • What foreign language is he going to take...
  • What electives will he take...and when...
  • What extra-curricular activities will he participate in...
At first, he was flying through the catalog saying..."I want to take this...and this....AND THIS!" I had visions of our son being the only person in history to take 7 years to graduate from High School because they took EVERY elective possible. Whoo.....

But, as is his norm, he completely surprised me. He has made some wonderfully grounded, educated and well thought out decisions! As he tested into Advanced classes in 3 of the 4 possible advanced programs, he will take those advanced classes as he works towards the mid-range diploma, keeping an eye on the possibility of the top diploma if the opportunity presents itself. As he would like to go into Oceanography or
Marine Biology, he chose Latin as his foreign language, in reference to the terminology he will be using in his profession.....the fact that it is not a foreign language class where proficiency in conversation is required doesn't hurt. He will use the first 2 years to fulfill his foreign language requirement and only participate in Band for his elective. (Mythology,  Speech/Theatre and Environmental Science as an elective will wait until Junior and Senior year.) He will not play football as he has already established himself with the Wrestling team, he enjoys it, he can wrestle year round, and he will have more time to focus on his school work.

WOW!!!! Just a point in fact, HE MADE THESE DECISIONS....HE CAME TO THESE CONCLUSIONS....HE SAID THESE WORDS.....

Now, if we can only get him to write down his assignments and organize his folders!!!
We MIGHT just make it through High School. I'll let you know......
