Virginia, Part 1

Well...our vacation to Virginia was a success. Not only did we enjoy ourselves, but the boys actually got along for the majority of the time! We did have our concerns when the van we rented turned out to be a SMALL SUV with only 1 back seat and no space for luggage. The first thing I said when I saw it was..."Nope...this won't do...they will KILL each other!" Three boys in 1 bench seat when 2 of them are Aspie and don't want anything touching them? Yeah...right! Luckily, a different company had a WONDERFUL van ready for the same price!!! We started our trip with a challenge from close friends: 1-keep track of "fun facts" from each place visited....2-get a rock from each place....3-keep track of "famous quotes" along the way. We did this and more as we wrote a journal entry each night. It was my hope that I could keep you all up to date while we were gone, but we did not have internet access. So.....I will recap our time over the next couple of days. Our 1st day of driving took us through 5 states. We stopped at each welcome center, collecting fun facts and rocks. Funny quote from the 1st day of travel came from our 7 year old seeing a mountain for the first time...."Woooooo...that is a BIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGG MOUNTAIN!" We were actually still in the foothills of Alabama at the time.

The 2nd day of driving took us through 2 more states. Upon arrival at the Virginia Welcome Center, our oldest and I took up the Welcome Center Guitar and performed a duet of "TAKE ME HOME, COUNTRY ROADS". The workers video taped us and we are now on YOUTUBE!

We finally made it to our destination....the Guest house. This is a wonderful retreat-type center run by my husband's brother and sister-in-law. They were so very gracious and giving! We are extremely thankful for their love and support during our vacation. Our only wish is that we had been able to spend more time with them! In the front yard of the Guesthouse is a rock-rise hill that our youngest henceforth named "Colin's Mountain." (Poor flat-lands child...haha) He had to climb it at least 4 times a day.

More to come tomorrow.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
