Driving...literally....

It is soooo very funny to watch an Aspie kid learn to drive.

Our oldest recently tested for his learners permit.
(He may have it for a while...)
And, of course, he takes EVERYTHING so literally.

-Stop ON the white line (not before it, not after it...ON IT)
-25 mph in a school zone (directly at the sign......bam)
-red light STOP!!!! (no prep...just stop)
-yellow light...slow down.....way down...."but it's not red yet"

Actually, he is going to make an EXCELLENT driver.
Much more conscientious than most teenagers BECAUSE he takes things so literally.
For instance, you tell him
NEVER TEXT WHILE DRIVING....
and he will NEVER text while driving.
You tell him,
DO NOT DRIVE UNLESS ALL SEAT BELTS ARE BUCKLED.....
and he will not even START the car unless EVERYONE is buckled.
You tell him he CAN NOT drive after a certain time...
and he WILL NOT drive after that time.

So yet again, I realize that there is always an upside.
Like the song our youngest son sings
(from the show DANIEL TIGER on PBS),
"When something seems bad, turn it around...
                              ...and find something good."

That is what we as Aspie parents need to
sing to ourselves EVERYDAY.
"When something seems bad, turn it around...
                            ....and find something good."
{No son, I did not say turn the car around.......}

In ever instance, there is grace....there is joy....there is love......
You just have to turn the situation around...
                                ...maybe a few times....
...so that you can find it.
