What a Difference...HOPEFULLY

Our oldest Aspie son is at a BSA camp for the next week.

Big deal, right? I mean he has already been to 1 BSA camp this summer and has attended BSA camps for the last 5 years. BUT, today, my husband dropped him off at a camp in a different state...without his troop...without ANYONE who knows him!

I was sure he would not want to attend by himself...but the opportunity to attend this very different camp overcame any apprehension.

Hopefully...that will continue. He is in a MOUTAINMAN PROGRAM...building a log cabin...simple forge work...cooking...etc.

So why are we willing to let him go to a camp in a different state by himself....because he will only LEARN if he has the OPPORTUNITY to make decisions.
It is very hard to let him go....to trust that everything will be OK.
He has come so far over the last 4 years BECAUSE we have given him the opportunity to grow....
just letting go of that hand is so hard....
